How To Set Up Solitaire Tableau You’ll start by first setting up the tableau, i.e., the seven piles in the middle of the table. Then, put one card face-up slightly lower on the first face-down card and put one card face-down slightly lower on the remaining piles. How to Set Up Solitaire First, put one card face-up on the table and then put 6 cards face-down next to the first card. Four cells (to the left) and four foundation piles (to the right) are placed above the tableau piles. All cards are dealt into 8 tableau piles. Position the first card such that it faces up, and the remaining six cards should face down and position next to the first card. Start by shuffling the deck, then deal seven cards and position them in a row.

To move a card to a column, it must be one less in rank and the opposite color. They must be stacked by suit and in order, starting with the Ace, then the 2, 3, 4,….ending with the Queen and then King.Ĭards that are face up and showing may be moved from the stock pile or the columns to the foundation stacks or to other columns. Each stack represents a suit (hearts, clubs, etc). At the start of the game these stacks are empty. The goal of the game is to move all of the cards to the "foundations" these are four additional stacks of cards.

You can start a new stack, called the waist stack, by turning the top three cards of the stock pile over. The remaining cards go face down in a single stack called the stock pile.
